This week we are reviewing a peer's project and giving feedback. We are to discuss usability, purpose, flow, function, aesthetic and other relevant elements.

Hey Curtis-
ReplyDeleteThis looks like some great progress on your site thus far. Here are some thoughts and feedback I had regarding your site as it stands now.
Purpose
Your purpose is clearly described on the first page, and overall I think that it's very clear. I also appreciate that you use pretty informal language when talking with the end user. It gets across the point that the site is meant to be a fun resource and less dictionary-like.
Approach
I think that your sequencing is instructionally sound. You clearly describe the steps in the project and you use a tabbed structure which leads the user through the structure.
Function
A couple of thoughts as I was going through:
-While I like the minimalist approach to design, it often seems a bit heavy to wade through all of the text. You may want to consider more contrast by using different fonts for the headings and then the body.
-Love the formative assessments and feedback that is given during the content.
Flow
-The pre-tests are super cool, but its not immediately intuitive as to what I’m supposed to do with the fill in the comma sections. I don’t know if its possible, but rather than having to manually type the commas, it seems like it might be nice to just click on those spaces and have the commas appear.
-The flow on the “Learn the Marks” feels a bit off. It seems a little strange to have nav links on the top of the container as well as the bottom — I would suggest somehow combining them.
-For the content, it feels as if you need another way to find/index the material. I can see someone wanting to refer to some of the great materials that you put together, but finding it difficult to locate it. It might be good to have some kind of visual representation of the flow of the content.
- I love that you use a game as a pre-assessment of the material that you’ve been presenting. It’s a nice way to make the user a bit more invested in learning the material.
Overall, this is some great work, and I can tell that you’ve definitely put a lot of time and effort into learning the skills. The website feels slick and functional and I’m excited to see what it looks like in the end.
